Dordogne Holidays

The Dordogne is a very popular destination in France, famed for its hilly scenery beautiful countryside and over 1000 historic castles. Many see this area as rural France at its best and it is easy to see why. Although there are large number of visitors at the height of the summer season, it is still possible to enjoy this area making the most of tranquil atmosphere.
This is an ideal area for walking, exploring medieval villages and of course enjoying the local wines and cuisine.
One small downside is that the famous Paleolithic cave paintings of Lascaux located near the village of Montignac are not currently open for visitors due to a fungus that has infected the caves and threatens the paintings. There is a recreation in the visitors centre that gives an accurate picture of it in more modern surroundings.
