If there is one city name in the world that conjures up romance, chic, culture and history it is Paris.

There are a number of factors why it has that reputation. The Paris we see today was mostly rebuilt during the Napoleonic era with Napoleon III Napoleon's nephew as the main influence / architect who wanted to remove the squalor and poverty of the former buildings and rebuild a city fit for an empire with wide avenues and impressive buildings and monuments. The results are there for everyone to see with the centrepiece being the area between the Louvre art gallery through the Place de Concord up the Champs-Elysees reaching the Arc de Triomphe. Other famous buildings are almost to numerous to mention but obviously the Eiffel Tower ( Click Here for the official website) can not be ignored being the single most visited paid monument in the world, This was originally built for an 1889 exhibition and there were many complaints about it at the times saying it was an eyesore - how times have changed?

Paris obviously has some of the best shops in the world, a great selection of restaurants and a plethora of street cafes to sit and watch the world go by.

If you are thinking of a weekend break in Paris, the best way to travel from London is by train. See Voyages Sncf UK for good prices on the Eurostar trains.
