Ste Tropez

Without doubt the most popular destination for tourists outside Paris, the Cote d' Azur, Provence / Riviera area is characterized by the Alps rolling down over the sun baked countryside onto the dramatic cliffs and beaches.

The cities of Nice and Cannes are typified by the expensive hotels and designer shops, but behind the posh arcades lie good french towns with a range of facilities and hotels to suit all budgets.

Other notable towns include the traditional fishing village turned millionaires playground of Ste Tropez which at the height of summer, the harbour is filled with exclusive yachts, with the rich and famous parading for the papparazi. Ste Tropez is definitely worth a visit, but traffic can be an issue.
Other towns in the area have a more sedate feel and certainly inland, you can sample the traditional atmosphere of the Provence countryside and villages.

A day trip to Monaco is also well worthwhile to any one who wants to drive the Grand Prix circuit and see a real millionaires paradise, but don't drive there if you are scared of cliff roads.

The nearest airport is Nice, where you can fly with some budget airlines including Easyjet.
